The "big picture" meets the "nuts and bolts" of Squad Situational Training Exercises (STX) in this training package from TWO SERGEANTS Trainers LLC. The training DVD and accompanying Training Booklet are actually several tools in one, and can be used in a variety of training scenarios. Structured on the STX lanes at the Leadership Development and Assessment Course (LDAC) at Fort Lewis, WA, the materials are excellent preparation tools for STX trainers and trainees. Trainers can use the materials to help construct or enhance their Squad STX training programs, and individuals can use them to improve their squad tactical skills.
The 40-minute DVD is short enough to use within narrow time constraints, and can also be broken down by chapters for more specific and in-depth training sessions. It describes and demonstrates the steps for planning, executing, and evaluating Squad STX’s, and includes information about infusing safety considerations into STX training. Most of all, it shows how effective squad training can be when trainers share their experiences and use creativity to plan STX's.
The 36-page Training Booklet contains a number of references and tools that enhance the instruction contained in the DVD. A suggested Teaching Plan for instructors and separate self-directed learning plan for individuals provides a framework for conducting STX training. Three evaluation rubrics (checklists) use a performance-based model for assessing STX planners, student instructors, and STX Squad Leaders. Additional references illustrate how to best utilize STX training in ROTC units with the restricted time constraints of leadership lab.
